YOUR BOOK BEGINNING

MY BOOK BEGINNING

I should've been more scared, but the truth was I had never felt more ready and raring to go.

Liberated: A Novel of Germany, 1945 by Steve Anderson.  Steve has been on a role lately.  His novel, Under False Flags also came out in 2014.  And his translation of a German thriller, Mark of Cain by Marcus Hünnebeck, is available now in a Kindle edition, soon to be released in paperback.

Liberated is a sequel of sorts to Anderson's earlier WWII novel, The Losing Role, which I reviewed here. Harry Kaspar, the hero in this book, is the older brother of the main character of the earlier book, Max Kaspar.  Steve is already working on other books involving the Kaspar brothers.

  1. Hi Gilion,

I don't really read too many wartime stories, although when I did sneak a peek at the synopsis for 'Liberated', it did sound very intriguing and not your usual run of the mill storyline.

That opening line on its own, would probably have me carry on reading, if I had nothing else to go by.

I can relate to being scared having the impetus I need to motivate me.

Thanks for sharing and hosting and have a great weekend,

    Yvonne.

  2. Sounds like a fascinating story. The opening made me want to know more about the character -- why he should have been scared and why he was "raring to go." Hope you enjoyed the books.

  4. I like it. Sometimes its the fear that propels you forward more than anything else...

  5. I really like this opening because I think everyone can relate to that feeling where at once you're a bit scared but also incredibly excited! But the context of WWII of course makes this a bit more complex! Thanks for hosting :) I hope you enjoy your weekend!

  10. I do like this opening, but wouldn't follow up on it as War stories are not my chosen genre.

If I Loved You. is my offering for this week.
