YOUR BOOK BEGINNING

MY BOOK BEGINNING

The call came on the twenty-ninth of February: the one day in four years when, according to antiquated custom, women may openly choose their partners without shame.

-- The Whole World Over by Julia Glass. I really enjoyed Three Junes, Glass's debut novel for which she won the National Book Award in 2002. I'm hoping this sophomore effort is as good. She has since written a couple f other books I'd like to read as well.

Great beginning, it really caught my attention.

Hi Gilion,

I know all about crazy weeks and we still have Friday left to go! Here's hoping for a peaceful and quiet weekend - it's a holiday weekend here, so an extra day off Monday :)

Do I detect romance in the air in your first lines this week - Or are things not that straightforward and simple?

This probably isn't a book for me and the ratings and reviews have been very mixed, to say the least. I hope that you enjoy it though and thanks for hosting :)

That beginning really grabbed me. I'm guessing something life-changing happens on February 29th!

I've never heard of this author before, but that snippet does sound promising! Thanks for sharing. :)

I love all the bread on the cover! The quote makes me think it's a man hearing his phone ring.

I have the Three Junes on my TBR pile but just can't seem to get to it. Perhaps I should based on this review.

Now that sounds interesting. The first line intrigued me a lot. I'll have to look this book up and see what it's about! Thanks for this awesome meme!

Sounds good. My first time doing Book Beginnings, enjoyed joining in.

This definitely sounds like a great beginning. I feel like it wants you to think that someone is ringing about a marriage proposal when really that's not what will happen! Thanks for hosting :) I hope you have a great weekend!
