Opening Sentence: Serenissima

The way we live now, jetting from palmy LaLa Land to gray and frenzied New York City, to azure Venice, the Serenissima of all Serenisseme -- we might as well be time traveling.

-- Serenissima by Erica Jong.

Today is my birthday, so I am playing hooky from work and having fun all day. One thing I am doing is indulging in Erica Jong's novel about Venice.  This one is pure fun.

It also is my book for the Venice in February Challenge.

  1. Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day! Reading a fun book is the perfect way to spend the day!

  2. Happy Birthday! Hope it's a blast, and Venice will turn out to be even more surprising :)

  3. Happy Birthday. Sounds like you have a perfect day planned.

  4. Hope you enjoyed your day.

  5. Happy belated Birthday, hope your day was really a lot of fun.

  6. Hi Gilion,

Happy belated birthday and I hope that you managed to get the relaxing day you were looking forward to.

That first sentence was intriguing and after I had checked out the full synopsis, it all hung together very logically.

I have of course heard about Erica Jong, although I have yet to read any of her books, is this the first for you, or are you a long term fan?

I look forward to reading your thoughts about this one, before I make my reading list ay longer than it already is.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  7. Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I had a great day and am extending the celebration through the weekend.

Yvonne: I'm a big Jong fan ever since I finally read Fear of Flying a couple years back. I thought I would dislike it and absolutely loved it. I also enjoyed the sequel, How to Save Your Own Life. This is the first of her non-Isadora Wing books I have read and I like it just as much.
