"Eugene Atget is
the photographer of Old Paris."
--
Atget's Paris, from the
Icons series published by Taschen.
Eugene Atget was a French photographer known for his "documentary" photographs of Paris taken in the early 1900s. According to the prologue in the book, "He will be remembered as an urban historian, a genuine romanticist, a lover of Paris, Balzac of the camera, from whose works we can weave a large tapestry of French civilization."
