People are really romantic about the beginning of things.

-- Even If I Am by Chasity Glass. Perfect opener for a Book Beginnings event!

This is an interesting book for me. I got a paper book because that is what I read. But the e-book version (on Apple's iPad and the Kindle Fire) is enhanced with pictures, audio interviews, music, and web links that, as the author explains, "permit a truer and more personal telling."

PUBLISHER'S DESCRIPTION: The true story of one woman's discovery of youthful innocence, blighted hope, and fleeting faith. Told through emails, blogs, and personal narratives, this honest and raw e-memoir will leave you desperately wanting more.

This is a "leap-frog" giveaway.  This means that I have THREE copies to giveaway to Rose City Reader readers, and each winner will get to host another giveaway for an additional copy.

Winners will have the choice of a paper ARC or the enhanced e-book version.

The contest is for readers in the USA and Canada and is open until Friday, August 3, 2012. There are five ways to enter and each one is worth a chance to win.  To enter, do any or all of the following, but you must leave a comment for each one:

This contest is open to entries from the U.S. and Canada only. The deadline for entry is 9:00 PM, Pacific Time, on Thursday, August 2, 2012. I will draw and post the winner's name in my Book Beginnings post for August 3, 2012.

  1. Interesting. I'm intrigued by the multimedia concept, but uninterested as I'm a paper-book person too :) and I'll leave this one for the people with the e-abilities. And the beginning is great for your meme, indeed! Also true. First kiss, etc.

  2. Multimedia concept. Fascinates me.Lomazowr

  3. I am an email subscriber Lomazowr

  4. I willow tweet at rhondareads

  5. Nice beginning.

People are not as romantic about the ends of things.

The ebook with all the multimedia additions, sounds cool, but I probably wouldn't bother with all that.

Thanks for hosting. Have a good weekend.

  6. Sounds like an intriguing concept and I like the beginning sentence. However, my stack is too high to add any more books too it. Happy reading!

  7. I linked up today! I like the sound of that first line.

  8. I subscribe to your RSS feed.

  9. I'll skip the giveaway part...I like the beginning, though!

  10. Hi!
This does sound like a great book. I'll be adding it to my TBR list. Have a great day!

    Just Books

  11. Beginning about a beginning is interesting. Happy reading! Don't count me for the giveaway!

  12. Good opening, and true too. We imagine all sorts of possibilities and paths a beginning can take us.

If only I had an e-reader...

  13. I had heard about the multi-media approach to books coming out...but hadn't actually seen a book with it yet. Doesn't really interest me...probably because I think books are for reading. Not for music or videos or whatever.

  14. Hi Gilion,

I appear to feel much the same as many others who have commented.

I have admit that I am something of a convert to a Kindle download, although nothing will ever truly replace the look, feel and smell, of a paper book.

However books, whether they be hardcopy or electronic, are meant for reading and all the multimedia hype doesn't really interest me at all. I am unlikely to even look at it, let alone actually buy an electronic copy, specifically for those additional features.

I am not really into memoirs, however I can see that this is likely to be a particularly harrowing and emotional story.

    Thanks for sharing,

  15. It's a shame that the romance always drops off isn't it?

  16. I'd be interested to see how this works out. I'm reading my first multi-media book, and I'm a little overwhelmed!

  17. That multimedia business sounds like a doozy. The book looks interesting, though. Have a great day!

  18. That is a cool opening. I'm curious about this book and would be interested in winning a copy. My e-mail is -

  19. I have not heard of this one. Thanks for the giveaway!
