Friday Hop and Giveaway Reminder

I'll be hopping around today while I pretend that I do not have a stack of neglected work to attend to.

Also, please don't forget that I am giving away a copy of The Art of Disappearing by Ivy Pochoda.  See the main giveaway post for details.  Please sign up on the giveaway post, not here. Thanks!

Book Blogger Hop

The question for this week's Book Blog Hop comes from The Paperback Princess, who asks:

"When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move to your next title?"

Since I very rarely abandon a book, it would be an understatement to say I "stick it out."  In general, I have a funny, personal rule that I won't even look to see how many pages a book has until after I get past page 100. By then, I'm either interested, or have so much time and effort invested in the book that I finish it.

However (with lawyers, there's always a "however"), since I started blogging and sometimes get books I didn't ask for and am not particularly interested in to start with, I have gotten better about abandoning a book if it too much of a slog to get to page 100.  I can think of a particularly dry economic history of India and a biblical history textbook that I jettisoned early on. It was freeing.

Hmm I think I would have jettisoned books with those subjects too :)

I like your rule about getting to page 100. I'll often give myself targets - I have to read to a certain page before I can put it down for the day.

Here's My Hop

Bookdout -- Yes, they were both pretty dry.

Stephanie -- Thanks for visiting and leaving your link.

Shan -- My 100 page rule is a little neurotic, but I've done it for so long that it's an ingrained habit. Thanks for leaving your link.

I need to get better about abandoning books!

Do you still write reviews on them when you jettison them?

Check out my Blog Hop and Follow Friday HERE!

Bermuda -- I can count on one hand the books I stopped reading before the end. It is a rare occurrence for me.

Heather -- No, if I don't finish, I don't do a real review, just notes about my impression. Thanks for leaving your link.

Happy Follow Friday!!! Hope you will stop by my blog too! My publisher and I are looking for a group of bloggers for a huge blog tour next year before the release of book two in my 'A Sense of Truth' series! We will be giving out a few more copies of The Thirteenth Chime (we can only give out so many, being open to e-books gives an upper hand) and are still open to all interviews and guest posts. We want to fill up the Amazon page with reviews and try to reach as many people as we can!!! Hope you might consider being a part of the team! Thank you either way!

Still hopping around this weekend! Your new kittens are so very sweet!
I cannot under any circumstances completely abandon a book I've started...I may lay it down for a while and start something new but I always come back.
