I am very pleased to announce that I am taking over hosting duties for Book Beginnings on Fridays!
Thanks go to Becky at Page Turners for starting this weekly event, and for kindly giving inspiration credit to the Opening Sentences posts here on Rose City Reader. Becky passed the torch to Katy at A Few More Pages, who hosted graciously since October 2010.
I am very excited to take over! I even made a new button:
Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or two*) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author.
*Myself, I'm a stickler for just the first sentence, because I've been keeping track of first sentences for several years. It's almost a scientific experiment. But this is supposed to be fun, so feel free to include more if you prefer.
Leave a link to your post. If you don't have a blog, but want to participate, please leave a comment with your Book Beginning.
Wading for Bugs: Exploring Streams with the Experts by Judith L. Li and Michael T. Barbour, Illustrations by Boonsatien Boonsoong.Whether turning over stream rocks, chasing damselflies at stream's edge, or watching the dance of mating mayflies, children and adults alike have long delighted in the diversity of stream insects.
I can't honestly say I am one of the people delighting in stream insects or any other bugs. But I get a kick out of these funny books published by OSU Press.
I could get down with the bugs. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteI can delight in the Diverese stream insects as long as they are not very near me.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of bugs in any venue. They can be along streams as long as I am not. However, the language of the sentence is very descriptive and lyrical.
ReplyDeleteThanks for following me over here!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not a bug person.
I love the new button! I am a little behind today, but I got a post up pointing everyone to your blog. Thank you so much for taking over the meme! I hope you have as much fun with it as I have had for the last year and a half! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Gilion,
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping this great meme going.
I always record the openings of the books I read, as I find that they really do set the scene ad style of writing for me.
I generally find it next to impossible just to stick to literally the first sentence, so i may take a few liberties from time to time and divulge an extra couple of lines.
I love the cover image of your book and agree with its sentiments exactly, if my own nieces and nephews are anything to go by.
Have a great weekend.
Yvonne
It does look interesting...thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou took the words out of my mouth. No, I'm not especially delighted or interested in any insects. Luv the new header.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! I like the new button. :) I'm a newcomer to Book Beginnings so I'm very excited to meet everyone here.
ReplyDeleteI could have fun with that book.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great new button. Sorry I'm running a little late, I updated my post with your information.
Thanks for taking over hosting! My post was already up when I found this out so I'll be sure next week's has the correct info.
ReplyDeleteHowdy neighbor, we lived in Portland for several years until my husband was transferred over here.
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend!
Thanks for hosting BBF! ;D
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting. Your book looks like one that would be fun to take out with the family and see bugs you can identify.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone, for participating! I wish I could figure out how to set up for individual reply messages on blogger. Is it possible?
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in what information you're gleaning in your opening sentence experiment. Sounds interesting.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the bug author should have added "some" to qualify the adults and children who enjoy insects? :)
Hi Gilion (or maybe you prefer a nick, I am not really sure...)!
ReplyDeleteThere is a way to response every comments but you have to change a few things in your blog.
Blogger explained it here, but it doesnt work with every blog, because I can't use it and I really don't know why (maybe it's a language problem?)
I hope you'll be luckier than me! :D
