He used her credit card to buy gas for the hack and also for cash advances to buy more rock. He stayed high and without a plan, except to wait for the police, who he knew would eventually come.-- The Night Gardener by George Pelecanos.
I'm having a hard time getting absorbed by this book. It is hard for me to go from the fluid elegance of Iris Murdoch's The Sea, the Sea , to hard boiled crime and Pelecanos's lickity split cadence.
Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by Should Be Reading, where you can find the official rules for this weekly event.
That would be jarring. I do like a good hard-boiled book once in a while, but I definitely need some comfort on either side.

Interesting teaser! Haven't read anything by Pelecanos yet, but he's on my list. Also haven't read The Sea, the Sea, but Iris Murdoch is one of my favorites and I hope to read all her books eventually. (If I live long enough!)

ReplyDeleteMy Teaser Tuesday
I do like hard boiled crime, but this one was hard for me, especially the end. Sounds like I need to look up The Sea, The Sea.
ReplyDeleteYikes. Too scattered and staccato for me! Hope the story is good, to encourage you to keep reading.
