"He looked like a horse with a secret sorrow. He coughed three times, like a horse who, in addition to a secret sorrow, had contracted asthma."
-- The Indiscretions of Archie by P. G. Wodehouse. I chose this teaser because it is a good example of what makes Wodehouse funny. He comes up with funny descriptions -- a horse with a secret sorrow. No one says that, but it seems perfect when you read it. And then the poor man becomes a horse with a secret sorrow with asthma. It's silly. But it's funny too.
Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by Should Be Reading, where you can find the official rules for this weekly event.
Ah, Wodehouse! How wonderful are you.
ReplyDeleteMy teaser is here.
What a great teaser! I'm definitely interested in your review of this one!
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with this author, but if all the characters are like this poor man who looks like a horse with a secret and asthma I'll have to check it out!

ReplyDeleteOh Wodehouse!
I adore his way with the understated humorous phrase.
LKT: Wodehouse is a huge favorite of mine. I hope to get to several of his this year. Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteBaley: Coming soon. Knock wood.
ksbooks: Wodehouse is worth looking into. He has close to 100 books, so dive in anywhere. Thanks for leaving your teaser link.
Birdie: He can sneak up on you. I often find myself laughing only after a second or so to let the joke seep in.
Good teaser choice! Quirky, funny, and somehow strangely evocative.
