More Books!

I don't even like garage sales, but I've had the bug the past few weeks. This weekend I lucked out with a church rummage sale and a couple of estate sales in addition to the usual garage and yard sales. Portland being such a bookish town, there were even two yard sales devoted entirely to books. What fun! Finding books for a dollar or less does not lead to the noblest of literary pursuits. Instead, it lets me indulge my quirkier books tastes, like kitchy local cookbooks, mid-century pop fiction, and random memoirs. Which explains some of the following titles on my loot list: California Street by Niven Busch A Pillar Of Iron by Taylor Caldwell The Instrument by John O`Hara Victoria and Albert by Evelyn Anthony Gone Whaling: A Search for Orcas in Northwest Waters by Douglas Hand The Devil's Mode by Anthony Burgess O, How the Wheel Becomes It! by Anthony Powell Rebel Without Applause by Jay Landesman What's for Dinner?: Dinner Menus with Some Very Special Recipes by Maryana Vollstedt (1975 edition) How To Read and Why by Harold Bloom The English Garden by Clay Perry Laughing Out Loud by Myron Cohen Easter Treats: Recipes and Crafts for the Whole Family by Jill O'Connor One Fat Englishman by Kingsley Amis
