Plus the historical stuff seemed kind of random and unbalanced.Carin Siegfriedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07278383926500248048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4508267865632365231.post-60989012274899762242010-02-14T22:16:34.021-08:002010-02-14T22:16:34.021-08:00I appreciate your comparison to Ragtime because I ...I appreciate your comparison to Ragtime because I totally did not connect with the characters in that novel due to the pacing and shallowness. I would hate to go through that again.

And I really dislike a story being called "based on" when it really should be "inspired by". That happens all of the time in Hollywood and then you research the characters and find Kristen M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02335598194501733541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4508267865632365231.post-75864428661662310892010-02-14T19:42:30.340-08:002010-02-14T19:42:30.340-08:00I ended up being slightly disappointed in this one...I ended up being slightly disappointed in this one too. I ended up rating it a 3 out of 5. I though it was interesting but not compelling when it could have been both. If it hadn't been so short, it might not have rated it that high.SuziQoregonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15552565982732943323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4508267865632365231.post-57605369113584863752010-02-13T10:39:50.991-08:002010-02-13T10:39:50.991-08:00Bermuda -- Lots of people liked it. I loved the characters, their relationship, & the writing & it utterly broke my heart. I suspect, however, that it is not a book for everyone for all the reasons that I just wrote. & yes, you can link to my review: http://Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00374987261333318644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4508267865632365231.post-78193759945593241232010-02-13T08:13:58.308-08:002010-02-13T08:13:58.308-08:00The reviews for this book seem to be all over the ...The reviews for this book seem to be all over the place. I actually liked Ragtime for a little while, then it tired me. There are many books that use the same March of History idea, not just Doctorow's, and it usually feels a little forced to me.Gilion at Rose City Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18080293172467000794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4508267865632365231.post-22318107955795608432010-02-13T07:29:09.559-08:002010-02-13T07:29:09.559-08:00Thanks for your review on this one. I agree with you that taking two real guys and putting them in a time period they didn't live in is just plain weird. Sort of like making Elizabeth Bennet from "Pride and Prejudice" live in the 20th SocrMom78https://www.blogger.com/profile/03238043257356421980noreply@blogger.com
