Teaser Tuesday: Indian Summer

"The Reardons were too important to be snobbish; they entertained people they liked or wanted to help or found amusing or felt sorry for or wanted something specific from or through force of habit.  They knew that where they lived in the Connecticut Valley was Siberia socially, and they preferred it that way."

-- Indian Summer by John Knowles.

This is the first book I read for the Hotchpot Cafe's Birth Year Reading Challenge. It is a very interesting book because none of the characters are a particular type. I can't remember reading a book where each character is so unique -- to each other and to characters in other books -- and difficult to figure out.

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by Should Be Reading, where you can find the official rules for this weekly event.

  1. It is fun to go back and explore older books sometimes. I remember in high school reading anything I could get my hands on. Sometimes that would be books that were old and tattered that were popular in the 60s and 70s. I got some odd looks from teachers when I'd read those. :)

  2. Alyce -- I did the same thing. I'd read anything I could get my hands on. Often things from my mom's bookshelf or old books I bought at shops. I think I had a general notion that if it was a book, it was worth reading.

  3. I like the teaser--and I like the idea of reading books published the year one was born (I'm assuming that's the challenge).

    My teaser is here:

  4. LKT -- Yes, the challenge is to read books from the year you were born. I really enjoy Mid-Century popular fiction anyway, so reading books from 1966 is fun.

Thanks for leaving your TT link.

  5. "Siberia Socially," well, that says it all. Love the title, Indian Summer. Not familiar with the author.

  6. Tea -- You must have been too young to read A Separate Peace in high school! Thanks for the link!

  7. Great teaser - sounds like an interesting read. Here's a teaser from an excellent page-turning crime thriller book I just read called, "The Deadfall Project," by Brett James:
"Grey was down on his knees, gently probing underneath the trunk of his car. His fingers examined every bump and bolt until-halfway up the side of his gas tank-they discovered something that wasn't supposed to be there."
