The Hot List

There are too many books vying for my immediate attention right now. I do not like it -- I feel pressured. My plan is to work my way through this yammering stack of books so I can turn my attention to whatever strikes my fancy at that very moment. But my immediate reading future includes the following: The Last Prince of the Mexican Empire (I am two-thirds of the way through and am enjoying this book a ton, but I set it aside to read Towers of Gold in time for an April review for The Internet Review of Books); The Letter From Death by Lillian Moats (yikes!); Basil's Dream by Christine Hale (looks like it could be very good) American Rust (another good one) The Stettheimer Dollhouse, edited by Sheila W. Clark (love this one); Joker One by Donovan Campbell (I've read some good reviews); The Tricking of Freya by Christina Sunley (this one showed up in my mailbox today -- why?); and The Italian Lover (I'm saving this for last). These are actually books that I have been looking forward to reading and that I think I will enjoy. They just seem to be ganging up on me right now.

I hear you. I'm dying for good weather to get here so I can spend my time out on the patio reading like a crazy person. Good luck on your list! They look good!

I enjoy doing the lists and a few selected challenges because they help me prioritize, and decrease the risk of choosing a bad book (snobbery, I know).

But that doesn't keep the TBR list from looming out there somewhere . . . So I understand the pressure aspect!

Here's my Booker list, per your request (thanks for linking!):

I feel rather ganged up on by my books too - but I always make it worse by continuing to accumulate more books, even when I have years' worth already in stock...

You are so good. You are inspiring me to get organized.

I enjoyed American Rust. It was good, but different. Some characters heads were a little cray to be in. I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to hearing your thoughts eventually.

I just realized you don't have the Orange Prize on your list of lists. You're the Queen of the Reading Lists, so what a surprise!

Here's my post on it, if you are interested.

I know what you mean - I have books that need to be reviewed and I am behind....pressure!

The tyranny of the urgent . . . good books send out pervasive "Read me. It's urgent" vibes. The Iceland one that dropped into your mailbox looks interesting.

Can't wait to hear your review on American Rust. I've been curious about that one.

I had a thing a couple weeks ago where I had so many good books out from the library that it was all too much pressure and I had to return them all and start new. It felt good. Refreshing.

Good luck!
