Book Notes: Scratch Beginnings

I finished reading one friend's book, Creating a Class by Mitch Stevens, but before I took the time to write a review (which I will because I was fascinated by his thesis), I got sucked into Scratch Beginnings by Adam Shepard. Shepard wrote this book about his "experiment" with the American Dream. Put off by the pessimism of his college friends, he set off with $25 cash and the clothes he wore and gave himself a year to become a contributing member of society, with a car, a place to live, cash in the bank, and the prospects for advancing his career. I was so taken with Shepard's brash adventure and his exuberant book that I am writing a longer than usual review and plan to submit it to The Internet Review of Books for its January edition. Now back to drafting a review of Mitch's book.
